Hey there, {{first_name | friend}},

I'm still pinching myself that my first book, The AI Empowered Family, will be coming from Wiley in 2027.

It's a collection of time-saving hacks, experiences, and tried and tested tips on how to use AI to reduce the mental load for busy families. I've been weaving in stories and community insights from this very newsletter, and I cannot wait to share it with you.

But here's the part that might surprise you given that I’m “the AI mom…” I'm not using AI to write it!

Every word is mine. And let me tell you, it's been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I've done in a long time. I had to retrain my brain to sit with an idea, follow a thread, and do the kind of slow, focused thinking that AI does in two seconds. Deep work, without the shortcut. It's stretching me in the best way.

Now Streaming: Writing A Book in 90 Days with Wanjiku Kamau

Wanjiku Komal did what I can only dream about: she wrote and published a book in just 90 days. In the latest episode of the AI-Empowered Mom podcast, she pulls back the curtain on her process, her mindset, and what it actually takes to get a story out of your head and into the world. If you've ever had a book inside you and wondered how to start, this episode is your sign.

And in case you’re wondering, Wanjiku did use AI to assist her, but not with the writing! She used AI to refine her process, but she wrote 100% of the words herself. And lucky for us - she shares her process with all of us in this episode!

AI Prompts For Book-Loving Families

Prompt 1: Find Your Next Favorite Book

Act as my personal literary matchmaker. I'm going to share my top 5-10 favorite books of all time across any genre. Based on what I love about each one, recommend 5 books I probably haven't read yet, with a one-sentence explanation of why each one fits my reading personality. Format the output as a short, scannable reading list with titles, authors, and your reasoning for each pick.

Mom tip: be specific about what you loved, not just the title. "I loved that it was fast and funny" will get you much better recommendations than the book name alone.

Prompt 2: Make a Personalized Storybook for Your Kids

Act as an AI children's book expert. Help me write a prompt to create a short, illustrated picture book for my child. Ask me questions about the main character, the theme or lesson, the reading level, and the style and tone. Write a detailed prompt so it's ready to paste into Google Gemini Storybook.

Mom tip: Google Gemini Storybook lets you create personalized, illustrated stories for kids using AI. Asking it to interview you and write the prompt improves the results for images, stories, and complex output. Here’s the story I created. I can’t wait to see if my girls notice the cat with the backwards head on page 2.

Prompt 3: Turn Your Story Into a Book Proposal

Act as a literary agent and book proposal strategist. I have a story or idea I want to turn into a book, but I don't know where to start. Ask me a series of questions about my concept, my intended reader, my personal expertise or experience, and why this book needs to exist right now. After I've answered, suggest a plan to create a book proposal outline that includes a working title, a compelling hook, the core premise, the target audience, and 3 potential chapter themes. Format it as a clean, professional outline I could share with a writing coach or agent.

Mom tip: The key here is using AI is helping you shape the proposal (rather than writing it for you).

Books I’m Loving Right Now

On AI (from some remarkable women I admire):

Out of the Loop, Into the Algorithm: How I Finally Made Friends with AI by Wanjiku Komal — Follow the real-world journey of learning how to navigate and collaborate with artificial intelligence, starting from scratch. Available on Amazon.

Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What Is Human in a World of Machines by Dr. Joy Buolamwini — A powerful, personal look at the hidden biases baked into AI systems and the human cost of getting it wrong. Available on Amazon or at your local bookseller.

Beyond AI (from some remarkable Mom 2.0 Summit speakers)

The Mother Code by Ruthie Ackerman — A deeply researched, beautifully told story about the invisible work of motherhood and the systems that shape it. I can’t believe I missed out on getting my book signed by Ruthie at the Mom 2.0 Summit. Available on Amazon.

Honest Motherhood by Libby Ward — Raw, real, and refreshingly free of the pressure to perform. Libby writes the way so many moms think but rarely say out loud. I loved her talk so much at Mom 2.0 that I went to see her again that night at Book People in Austin. Available on Amazon.

When Life Happens: The Mindset Shift You Need to Manage Stress, Build Confidence, and Break Free by Rachel L. Goldman, PhD — a practical guide to helping women reclaim their confidence, reshape how they see themselves, and build resilience. Available on Amazon.
